Yuru
The AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia places the Yuru people (alternatively, Juru, Euronbba, Mal Mal, Malma) on Queensland's northeastern coast, with the Bindal to their north, the Gugu-Badhun to the west, and the Biri and Giya to their south. Norman Tindale's classification lists them as the Juru, occupying about 3,100 square kilometres around Upstart Bay between Bowen and the Burdekin River's southern bank. Their territory extended inland to the Bogie Range and as far south as Mount Pleasant and Mount Abbot.
Successful native title claims over areas between Ayr and Bowen in 2010 and 2015 led to a dispute between the claimants and the owners of 130 fishing huts around the Elliot River mouth and Curlewis.
